What is a Read-Aloud?

It’s a term used to describe a book that is read aloud to a child by a parent, teacher, or caregiver. Children follow along as the reader creates voices for each character, pauses at commas and periods, and emphasizes different words.

Reading aloud has enormous benefits to literacy learning, and helps build important foundational skills, including:

  • listening skills
  • vocabulary
  • comprehension

The Read-Alouds I designed for Benchmark Education combine beautiful illustrations with engaging stories and characters that introduce children to the pleasure of reading.
