PBM Legislation Cheat Sheet

Pharmacy benefit managers, or PBMs, were created to negotiate with drug manufacturers and pharmacies to keep prescription drug costs low for patients and plan sponsors. But over time, traditional PBMs have not maintained this objective.

In response to growing concerns about the role of PBMs in rising drug prices, congress introduced a series of legislative measures aimed at curbing unfair practices and increasing reporting transparency in the PBM industry.

I was tasked with creating a cheat sheet for Rightway members to explain the legislation and its potential impact.
